The News

The world is a crazy place. Find an article in today's news that interests you and write a summary about it.

Make sure to include a link back to the article so I can read it too!

Everyone must pick a different story, so make sure you don't summarize something that a classmate has already done.

    4. The annual number of murders committed each year is far less than hammers and clubs. From 2005 to 2011, deaths from clubs and hammers is always a bigger number than the rifles. Like in 2005, the deaths from a riffle was 445 while the number for hammers was 605. In 2006 there was 438 killed with a riffle while hammers and clubs had 618. Also, twice as many people are killed by hands and fist every year than riffles. This are all interesting facts considering that the President is pushing a gun ban to keep people safe. Silly Obama... He's a bad president and you should feel bad you voted for him. You say you're entitled to your opinion? Well that works both ways, I'm also entitled to mine.

  2. The children of the Sandy Hook School will be returning as of today from the shooting of last month. They will no longer be going to the original school for they have put them in a secure area with surveillance. They will have cameras to watch the sidewalk and entrances. The police department will have men on the grounds at all times. They will be allowing parents of young children to sit through classes with them if they wish. I would NOT like that at all!!! My grandmother is a human dictator when it comes to school. Even though they had a month off, would that be worth having to go through the trauma of watching your best friend die or yourself to get hurt or killed? No it's not worth dying or watching someone get murdered. At least not to me.

  3. http://msn.foxsports.com/olympics/story/south-african-mountain-biker-burry-stander-killed-road-accident-010313

This Olympics biker was 25 years old and he was and mountain biker. He won 2008 and 2012 at least a bronze medal. He was biking by his house and he crashed. He died and he was wearing a helmet and everything else that you wear. This sucks because he is only 25 years old. He one once at London and I does't say the other. He was near by his house and he fell. That would suck is you were really good at something that you got to the Olympics and you die. He was from South America.

  4. Well my store is about what RG3 said to Tony Romo. Well the Red Skins won the game. Tony Romo and RG3 met at the middle of the field and RG3 said that Romo was a great Quarterback and that this game meant nothing. Romo said that he did not need to say that and that he was just bragging about winning. RG3 said that he did not want him to take it that way. That was not some thing that RG3 needed to say. I think that he needed to say that but it really was not that bad.

    1. I know who RG3 is, but a lot of people do not know. If you are wondering, he is the quarterback for the Redskins( a NFL team). He is a rookie that is really good and is beating a lot of records. Romo is also a quarterback, but he plays for the Cowboys( another NFL team). Both teams played against each to get into the playoffs. The Cowboys lost:(

  5. So everybody knows now that in Washington and california some drugs that are usually illegal are now legal. So there is this guy and he decides well he might as well make a very good profitable business off of these expensive drugs. So he makes a company for this growing market. He says that soon once these drugs are available in more and more states he hopes to start to make vending machines that give you like a ounce for something like fifty bucks. But you just cant go up on the street randomly and get it its a little harder than that. It requires a fingerprint scan to verify the identification of the patient, which is then linked to a prescription on file. Yeah so pretty interesting hey cant wait to see marijuana vending machines no I'm just kidding but hey I'm wondering if this company will succeed here is the link and the rest of the article.
    http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/01/03/16327561-recreational-marijuana-users-could-get-pot-from-vending-machines-company-says?lite

If a California company has its way, recreational marijuana users in Colorado and Washington state will one day be able to get their pot out of vending machines.

  6. Here is the rest of the article.
Such machines are already in use in some states where medical marijuana is legal, but now the maker’s founder says the company is working to adapt the machines to comply with new laws in Colorado and Washington, where adults can legally use marijuana for recreation.
The vending machines for medicine require a fingerprint scan to verify the identification of the patient, which is then linked to a prescription on file.
But as Washington and Colorado figure out how to create a legal pot market for the masses, Hollywood-based Medbox, a public company, is offering up its expertise in convenient delivery systems.
"One day we envision these machines to be accessed, when it's allowed, 24 hours a day," Vincent Mehdizadeh, the founder and chief consultant of a subsidiary of Medbox that produces, installs and consults on the vending business, told NBC News. "One day in the future that may happen, but for now these machines sit behind the counter as an inventory control and compliance tool."
He said the Medbox machines and consultancy are in high demand in states such as Arizona, Massachusetts and Connecticut that have published medical marijuana regulations. Dispensaries use them to keep marijuana from being pilfered and comply with laws.
So where will all that 'legal' pot come from? Sale of pot stymied
Medbox is now offering to work with Washington and Colorado officials who are mobilizing to create the framework for a legal marijuana industry - and to collect taxes on pot sales.
"These machines behind the counter act an inventory control and taxation tracking tool so that the states can effectively track the taxes and collect on them more efficiently with real-time reporting directly from the machine to the state database," Mehdizadeh said.
The company also helps operators get licensed in states that have licensing programs.
"We've probably been the most successful consulting firm in the marijuana business," he said.
Mikhail Carpenter, spokesman for Washington’s Liquor Control Board, said Medbox has been in contact with the state but at this point no outside vendors have been chosen to help with marijuana sales.
Under state law, marijuana and marijuana-infused products, Carpenter said, would have to be sold from inside the confines of a retail outlet.
“So I can’t imagine with the way the law is written that you would see vending machines on the street corner,” Carpenter told NBC News.
In November, Washington and Colorado voters passed initiatives to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. Those laws went into effect last month.
Buzzkill: Feds fire warning shot over pot legalization
In Washington state, voter-approved Initiative 502 made it legal for anyone 21 or over to possess up to an ounce of marijuana, 16 ounces of “solid marijuana-infused product” (pot brownies and such) or 72 ounces of “marijuana-infused liquid.
Washington’s Liquor Control Board has until Dec. 1 to develop rules for implementation of its new recreational marijuana law.

Colorado, under Amendment 64 to the state Constitution, legalized not only recreational use, but also home growing, which is still illegal in Washington.
Growing, selling and possessing marijuana remains illegal under federal law, and the federal government is reviewing options in both Washington and Colorado.

  7. I was reading about an article talking about the new Audi A3 that will be sold in the U.S. sometime in 2013 or 2014. Audi expects that this car will sell great in China and the U.S. The new Audi that will come out is a sedan, which are popular in the U.S. A lot of the article explains what the Audi looks like, and what it is built with. Saying this, I mean that the article is stating things like how it has a four-cylinder engine. The car will have about 230 hp, but Audi is wanting to come out with a new Audi with 360 hp. For now, this new A3 has the top for Audi hp.

  8. I got my article from oddness.org. My article was about a "Runaway" deer, and I don't know if the deer was from a habitat or was just wild. Anyway the insadent happened on High Street in Chelmsford, Ma. The animal sent shoppers running and ducking as it flew by, one unfortunate lady was sent to the hospital after the deed tried to hurdle her. During the deers run it struck a shop window and seemed to daze it self. Later that day it was spotted by A15 but was not caught. A colleague of one of the shop owners remembers a similar incident with a stray deer in 2005. www.odnews.org/77-odd-news/2287-runaway-deer-in-chelmsford-woman-injured.html

    Concussions From Football

Concussions are a big deal. Back about 10 tears they were not a big deal and they usually just make you go right back into the game after a few plays. Now it’s a much bigger deal and even now there are lawsuits against the NFL because they don’t educate people about concussions. Most people think that concussions are when you bruise your brain or even internal bleeding, buts it’s not. It’s just when you’re running and then you get stopped rapidly or even if your head spins to fast. A lot of specialists say that once you have your first concussion you are 4 times as likely to get a second one. I am really happy that I have not got a concussion yet.
