Wish You Were Here

Today is the 11th anniversary of September 11, 2001, which is considered to have been the worst attack on the United States in history.. On that fateful day, 19 members of a terrorist group called al-Qaeda (al-KYE-da) hijacked four U.S. airplanes and used them to strike various targets on the East Coast, including the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. It is said that "people who remember 9/11 will never forget."

Why do you think September 11 is such a big deal when there have been many other wars and events that have cost far more lives? What does the above picture say to you?

  1. This was a very sad day. So many people died. It must of been hard for their loved ones. It will start more wars. Then more people will died.

    1. It was a very sad day, that is true. I would like to know more about what the photo says to you. Think about the phrase, "Wish you were Here." Usually, that is said in a happy way, meaning you are having such a good time that you wish someone else could share it with you. What do you think it means in this case?

  2. 9/11 is a very important day to remember because of the terrorist attack on the twin towers. Many people lost their lives that day; everybody in the buildings, on the planes and bystanders. Many people did not get to say goodbye to their love ones. It's different than other wars because it was on our turf, they came over an attacked us. Another reason we remember this day because it brought Americans together as one.

    1. You are very correct, there was a surge in American patriotism after 9/11. It was a very tragic event and there has been a definite change in our country ever since. Things just haven't been the same. :(

  3. I think that it is more important because it was the largest terrorist attack on American land in many years. It was also terrible because it was a terrorist attack on innocent people. I feel very sorry for their family. The picture that says: Wish you were here, means that they wish the terrorist attack never happened. I very much agree with them. Also, I watched an amazing story on the news where a guy jumped 15 stories out of the 2nd tower and surfed the debris, but still lived. It was amazing and I was happy that he lived to tell such an amazing story.

  4. i think this was a sad day because soo many people died. some of the people didnt even know that it was comng. it would be different if it was in war. But to the innocent people, that’s just wrong. People didn’t sign up for that like they do for the military. It just wasn’t fair.
The picture was very sad because some of the people were just tourist looking at NY. They probably looked at that picture and wanted to come there to cee NY and when they did they died.
It was a big deal because for the people who survived, it was a scary moment. Now we all have bad memories that we all know. But this I grantee would of been ten times worst than your worst memory, because your life would of flashed before your eyes.

    1. It certainly isn't anything I would ever want to experience. I had a hard enough time just watching it on the news!

  5. I think that 9-11 is such a big deal because, over 2500 inanest civilians and all the firefighters, police officers, EMT s and other civilians fighting to rescue and get all the people out of the buildings who died with out being able to say good bye to their friends, families and closest loved ones. When I look at that picture I think of it as if it was taken by a loved one who misses somebody who's life was taken during the 9-11 attack.

  6. I think that 911 is bigger than most wars because in 911 Most of the people did nothing to alkida and then all of the sudden they just took the lives of people that hadn't done any thing to them unlike in war the Americans who die in the war now arnt neccacerly innocent because they have killed members of alkida. But don't get me ring I don't think its right for alkida to kill anyone.I also think 911 is a bigger deal than most wars because not only did they kill completely innocent people but they also ruined hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure and clearing away derbies and other things. So that is why I think 911 is a bigger deal than most wars.

  7. Why I think that 9/11 has been such a bigger deal than wars is that the people in New York that day did nothing. They were innocent. In the wars, we were actually fighting. The soldiers could defend themselves, but on 9/11, a regular person working in a cubical cannot protect themselves from a 100 story building crashing on top of them. But the "regular people" are not the only people that died. Firefighters, Police Officers, Paramedics, they did nothing. In wars 300,000 people die over a period of years, but on 9/11, 300,000 died in a mater of hours.

    1. You are correct, the people in the buildings didn't have a chance to defend themselves, and I'm sure that was the absolute last thing they ever would have guessed would happen when they left for work that day.

  8. I think that 9/11 is important because so many people lost there lives that day. I feel bad for the firemen because they where trying to help the people in the towers so that they would make it home, but they did not know that many of them would not see their loved ones that night. So, that is why I think we should remember them. They were trying to save the people in the towers! So i think that we should remember the firemen or people that died in the attack

    1. A lot of very brave people gave their lives for others that day and were very courageous. It takes an extremely strong person to put themselves in danger on a daily basis just to make sure others can be safe.

  10. This is a big story. 2996 people were killed on the twin towers. Stupid Osama Bin Laden planned this whole entire idea. He hates America. So, we went and got him, shot him, and celebrated. We also went after them bad guys, and killed them. We honor the officers and firemen, who have died on 9/11, to save peoples lives. They gave their life.... To America. We should ALWAYS honor the firemen and police officers that had died. After that day, sadness covered America. We should always remember 9/11.
