Rumspringa

  1. I personally think that this should not be for all adolescents. I only think this because when you are sixteen you do not always make the correct decisions. Plus we might just skip school, and then you would not be able to graduate the year that you are supposed to graduate. If you do not want to fallow your family's traditions you might as well just tell your parents that you do not want to fallow the traditions and ask for them to respect your wishes. So no I do not think that everybody should have a rumspringa and it should stay only with the Amish's traditions only.

  2. I agree with Austen. For us while we are in school it is not a god idea because what are we going to do for graduating . I don’t want to be held back two years just because I decided to go on a break. I would rather do that after school though in-between high school and college. If we would do this I think it would also mess a lot of things up so I think that we should just keep everything the same so it is less work in the future.

  3. I don't really have any idea what this DQ is about so I will agree with Cody and Austen. Since we are in school I don' think it is a really good idea. Because I wouldn't want to get held back for like three years. Plus that means that there would be way more work for me in the future. That would suck because I would way rather have more work now than later. Why? Well it just seems more appealing to me.

    1. Good points, but rumspringa doesn't mean a 16-18 year old kid who skips school, they just would have the option to skip school.

  4. I also don't think that this is a good idea. Kids can already start to act like grown ups just by watching their parents. Kids, like Austen said, don't always make the greatest decisions. They could do a lot of things from 16-18, and mess up a lot of things too. They may not even like having the choices to make themselves. They could mess up lots of things like school, jobs, etc. people under 18 years aren't adults, and I think it is a great idea to allow them to act like adults. Basically I agree with Austen, Cody, and Alex, and think that rumspringa is a bad idea.

  5. Wow Ms. Chetto you want to take away our rights to be free as an Amish adolescent. Who cares if they already don't make the best choices? Why take away an event where they can get all their curiosities? Rumspringa is not just about partying and all that it gives the Amish an opportunity to actually see what being a normal citizen this can determine if they are Amish or not and see which life style they like better not just to party and all that. You should not take away Rumspringa because this helps get all the curious Amish people to do whatever they want for two years and still have a chance to be part of the family or not.

    1. .....I never said I wanted to take away your rights as a free Amish adolescent. I'm simply asking your opinion on the matter. When did you become Amish, by the way? ;)

  6. I think that we should be able to have that period where we can go and explore the world with out are parents. It is also good because we can test out the world and see what we want to do with are lives and how we want to live are life. I think that it is really good because we can make decisions in are life with out are parents. It is also good because when we move out of the house we now what to do. I also think that it would be fun to live on your own for a little wile.
